Novel Published by TOC-Consulting, Warsaw 2000 Price: 50 PLN 427 ppOur meetings with customers very often begin in the same way as presently cultic book "The Goal" written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. Production. Hectic bustle, shorter and shorter series, piling stocks of half-products, matrixes, packaging and sight of Production Manager full of hope: “maybe we will manage to do something with this." Or another version: “We already have everything – 5S, TPM, VSM – we have implemented everything but the productivity is still unsatisfying. For both cases, the implementation of another technique will not be too helpful. Establishing the facts and increasing productivity where it is sensible and not doing something blindfold should be the beginning. Theory of Constrains formed by Eliyahu M Goldratt has become recently extremely simple and effective method. TOC essence is based on a well-known saying: “the chain is only as strong as its weakest link”. In production language, we can interpret this saying as the company is only as productive as its bottleneck. And each assembly line has only one bottleneck at one time. The task is to find and eliminate it. We locate the bottleneck using diagnostic tools (VSM, FS, OEE, PPI) and can usually, but not always, eliminate it using Lean Manufacturing technique. You can find bases of Theory of Constraints in "The Goal" written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt quite a few years ago. In Poland, this book was published by TOC Consulting Polska Sp. z o.o.And one more surprising information. This is not a scientific presentation with complex mathematical formulas. It is a novel as Eli Goldratt is not an engineer, but a philosopher and thinker. Even so, over 2 million engineers, and not only engineers, purchased this book all over the world. Punch Magazine summarized it briefly: “If you happen to be the only person in a company who read “The Goal”, you can significantly speed reaching the summit of your career. It is one of the most remarkable books on business I have ever read.” We can agree with the latter wholeheartedly and keenly encourage to read “The Goal”.
